A full day at the Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan 🇯🇵✨ From rope drop at Tokyo DisneySea to a park hop over to Tokyo Disneyland, this was one of those days where we tried to do it all. We grabbed Disney Premier Access (DPA) for a few rides, stopped for lunch at Casbah, snacked on mochi and popcorn, and kept moving through the crowds and long lines. By the time we made it to over Disneyland, the jet lag started to catch up with us, so we called it earlier than we wanted to, skipped a few things towards the end of the night, and saved the rest for another day, another visit. Kyoto: Slowing Things Down 🌸🇯🇵 On the way from Osaka to Kyoto, our guide Emiko took us to see the early bloom of the Kawazu-zakura cherry trees in Yodo, a beautiful start to the day and something we wouldn’t have known to find the trees in bloom on our journey to Kyoto. From there, we made our way through some of Kyoto’s most iconic spots; walking through the torii gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine, taking in the views at Kiyomizu-dera, and exploring the historic streets of Gion and Higashiyama. We stopped for lunch nearby before continuing on foot, weaving through the streets, grabbing matcha ice cream, tea and small snacks along the way. Later in the afternoon, we made our way through Nishiki Market; trying mochi, tasting sake, and picking up a few matcha and sake items to take home. Along the way, the pace just felt different. Quieter. Slower. More intentional. By the end of the day, we weren’t trying to see everything, we were just taking it all in. A perfect contrast to Osaka and a reminder that sometimes slowing down is the best way to experience a place. Osaka: The Kitchen of Japan 🇯🇵 In one full day, we went from the historic grounds of Osaka Castle to the peaceful beauty of Shitenno-ji Temple, through the retro streets of Shinsekai, the giant lion head at Namba Yasaka Shrine, the bright lights of Dotonbori, and skyline views from Umeda Sky Building. We had lunch at Ki Kuya, a small family-run spot that’s been serving guests for 58 years and got around the well connected city by walking, subway, train, and Uber. Along the way: takoyaki in Shinsekai, mochi and strawberry candy in Dotonbori, and of course the classic Glico Running Man Sign photo. By dinner, the kids were starting to feel the jet lag, so we kept it easy with a dinner stop at Time Out Market Osaka, a perfect reset before calling it a day. What we didn’t expect: our guide from Goen Travel Japan was actually “media famous”, a TV/Radio personality in Japan. We had no idea until people kept recognizing him everywhere we went 😄 A perfect mix of history, food, and nonstop energy, made even better with our knowledgeable guide (booked through Viator/Tripadvisor).
