Manchester United Hospitality Review: The Manchester Derby at Old Trafford with Museum Post Match Tickets

Some matches you plan around. Others become the centerpiece of the trip. The Manchester Derby, Manchester United vs Manchester City, at Old Trafford was always going to be one of those games.

Getting tickets to a match like this isn’t easy - Between membership systems, limited inventory, and demand for derby matches, standard tickets are unpredictable at best. That’s why we went straight to hospitality and booked directly through Manchester United.

Buying direct gave us confirmed tickets months in advance, clear communication and zero uncertainty and for a match like this, that matters.

Match Details

We booked our ticket through Manchester United direct and received our tickets via the Manchester United App a few days before the match.

Here are the details for the tickets:

  • Fixture: Manchester United vs Manchester City (Manchester Derby)

  • Location: Old Trafford

  • Hospitality Package: Museum Post-Match

  • Amount Paid: £1,796.00 (family of four)

Understanding the Experience (Important Difference)

This is where Manchester United’s hospitality experience is very different from Chelsea and Arsenal games we also went to on this trip, and it’s important to understand that upfront.

The Museum Post-Match package is exactly what it sounds like:

  • You go straight to your seats for the match

  • There is no pre-match hospitality included

  • The hospitality portion begins after the final whistle

Turnstiles open about two hours before kickoff, so you can enter early and grab food or drinks from stadium kiosks if you want, but those are not included in this package.

Instead, everything is built around what happens after the match.

How This Fit Into Our Trip

This match was one of the anchors of our trip. Everything around it was planned with it in mind. We stayed at Hotel Football Old Trafford, which ended up being one of the best decisions of the trip. It’s located directly across from Old Trafford, making matchday incredibly easy. No transportation logistics. No stress getting in or out. Just walk out of the hotel and you’re there.

Before the match, we had a pre-game meal at Cafe Football inside the hotel, which was the perfect way to start the day. It added to the buildup and made the whole experience feel like a full matchday, not just showing up for kickoff.

After the match, instead of dealing with the crowds immediately, we stayed for the post-match hospitality and then made the short walk back to the hotel. That combination, hotel location plus the post-match package made the entire day feel smooth from start to finish.

Matchday Experience: Before Kickoff

Because of the structure of this package, the pre-match experience is simple. We arrived, entered the stadium, and made our way to our seats in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. There’s no schedule to follow, no structured timeline, just a straightforward buildup to kickoff.

For a match like this, that actually worked. The focus stayed exactly where it should be - on the game.

Seating and Match Atmosphere

This was the most intense atmosphere of the three matches we attended. Old Trafford during a derby feels different from the moment you walk in. The scale, the emotions, the noise, the tension, it really is a bucket list worthy item to check off your list! It all builds quickly and once the match starts, it doesn’t let up.

Even from hospitality seating, the energy carries through the entire stadium. This wasn’t just a match. It felt like a moment.

Hearing the pre-game chants and song while watching the game from home does not do it justice. The rendition of “Take Me Home, United Road", a popular anthem for Manchester United fans, adapted from John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" sung right before kickoff will send chills down your spine, as the anthem expresses a passionate desire to return to Old Trafford, to show love for the team.

Post-Match Experience: Where This Package Delivers

Once the final whistle blew, the experience shifted. Instead of exiting with the crowd, we stayed and moved into the hospitality portion of the package.

This included:

  • Access to the Manchester United Museum for up to 90 minutes post-match

  • Grab-and-go dining

  • Complimentary bar (beer, wine, cider, soft drinks)

  • Relaxed, less crowded environment where we could enjoy food and drinks and make our way through the Manchester United Museum

Everything is available for up to two hours after the match, which completely changes how the day ends. Instead of navigating crowds immediately after a derby, we were able to stay inside the stadium, decompress and extend the experience. It was a nice way to enjoy dinner and drinks after the game and make our way through the three floors of the museum.

Other Manchester United Hospitality Options (And Price Range)

One thing that’s worth understanding before booking is just how wide the range of hospitality options is at Old Trafford. The Museum Post-Match package we chose sits in the middle, it’s not the most premium, but also not the most basic.

For comparison, here’s a real snapshot of pricing across different hospitality options (Prices vary based on the match):

  • Private executive boxes (8–10 people): ~£8,000–£10,000 total

  • Premium suites (like the No.7 Suite): ~£499 per person

  • Red Cafe hospitality: ~£375

  • Trinity packages (pre or post match): ~£199–£299

  • International hospitality: ~£299

  • Museum packages: ~£239+

  • Offsite premium dining packages: ~£399

What stands out is how different each experience is, not just in price, but in structure.

The tickets range from:

  • Fully premium, private experiences

  • Traditional pre-match dining setups

  • Post-match focused (like ours)

  • Offsite hospitality tied into the match

How to Choose the Right Option

There’s no single “best” package, it depends on how you want your matchday to feel.

  • If you want full immersion and premium access, look at suites and higher-end packages

  • If you want structure and simplicity, mid-tier options work well

  • If you care most about the match itself, post-match packages can be a great value

  • If you want flexibility, avoid tightly scheduled experiences

For us, the Museum Post-Match package struck the right balance. It kept the focus on the match, especially for a derby, while still giving us a more relaxed experience afterward.

Overall Impression

Manchester United delivered the most emotional and intense experience of the three matches we attended on this UK trip. Old Trafford during a derby carries a weight that’s hard to replicate and that’s what makes it special.

If you’re choosing based on atmosphere, the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford is hard to beat. The Museum Post-Match package was perfect for us since we stayed next door at Hotel Football and didn’t really need a full-day experience. It became more of watching a massive match and then extending the experience afterward in a more relaxed way with dinner and drinks and avoding the mass exodus of fans after a game.

And for a game like this at Old Trafford, that’s exactly what you want.
