Hotel Review: JW Marriott Hotel Madrid

Finding the right hotel in Madrid comes down to two things: location and simplicity. That’s what led us to the JW Marriott Hotel Madrid. And the fact that it was a new hotel with a great location.

Located in the heart of the city near Puerta del Sol, the hotel puts you within walking distance of many of Madrid’s key landmarks, including Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, and some of the city’s best shopping and dining areas. It’s also close to the Art Walk, part of the UNESCO-listed “Landscape of Light”, which connects several of the city’s most well-known museums.

The hotel itself blends a modern design with elements of the building’s history, including restored 19th-century architectural details. Compared to more traditional properties in the city, it offers a more contemporary and streamlined feel, making it easy to settle in and use as a base for exploring Madrid.

Location and First Impressions

The location is one of the biggest strengths of the hotel.

You’re within walking distance of:

  • Puerta del Sol

  • Plaza Mayor

  • Gran Vía

  • Many of Madrid’s best restaurants and shops

Being able to step outside and immediately be in the middle of everything makes a big difference, especially when you want to explore without overplanning.

The hotel itself feels modern and polished from the start. Compared to some of the more traditional properties we stayed in earlier in the trip, this one felt more updated and luxurious.

Rooms and Overall Comfort

We originally booked a Deluxe Interior room with two queen beds and a courtyard view, but used Marriott Bonvoy Suite Night Awards, which cleared prior to arrival and confirmed us into a Junior Suite Terrace with a skyline view. That upgrade made a noticeable difference.

The suite offered more space, a separate sitting area, and a private terrace overlooking the city. After a longer trip, having that extra room, and the ability to step outside, made it easier to slow things down and relax.

The one tradeoff was the bedding configuration. The suite included a single king bed, so we had a rollaway brought in for one of the kids. It worked fine for our stay, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re traveling as a family and prioritizing bed setup over room size.

Overall, the room felt modern, clean, and well-designed, and the confirmed upgrade made it one of the more comfortable stays of the trip.

What Stood Out During the Stay

What stood out most was the service and how easy everything felt. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome, from the bellman, check-in agent, and concierge.

The combination of location, modern design, and consistent service made this one of the more straightforward stays. There’s no learning curve, you’re not figuring out complicated layouts or navigating older infrastructure, it’s just simple and well-executed.

Dining Experience

Dining at the hotel was solid, particularly breakfast, which we had every morning, complimentary with out Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status. It was an easy way to start the day before heading out into the city, especially with everything within walking distance.

Madrid is a city where you’ll likely spend most of your time eating out, but having a reliable option on property adds convenience. During our stay, we had dinner at the hotel one night (Qu by Mario Sandoval), but it appears that has since rebranded to Botanicos Alvarez.

How This Fit Into Our Trip

During our time in Madrid, we mixed in structured experiences with more flexible exploring. We did private tours with Family Twist, including A Walk Through Madrid and Masterpieces of the Prado, which helped bring context to the city and made it more engaging for the kids.

We also attended a Real Madrid vs Chelsea Champions League Quarterfinal at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which ended up being one of the highlights of the entire trip.

Beyond that, we kept things flexible, walking the city, shopping, and taking in the atmosphere without overplanning every moment.

The location of the JW Marriott Hotel Madrid made all of this easy, allowing us to explore at our own pace without needing to think too much about logistics.

Overall Impression

The JW Marriott Hotel Madrid works best as a central, modern base in Madrid. It’s not about being over-the-top or overly unique, it’s about delivering a clean, comfortable, and well-located experience and what you’d expect from a JW Marriott brand hotel.

Everything felt simple, consistent, and easy to navigate. Using Suite Night Awards to confirm the upgrade ahead of arrival added both space and predictability to the stay, which made a noticeable difference.

If you’re looking for a modern, centrally located hotel in Madrid that makes your trip easier, the JW Marriott Hotel Madrid is a strong option.
