Hotel Review: Sina Villa Medici, Autograph Collection Florence
Florence is one of those cities where your hotel choice can completely shape your experience.
Between the crowds, compact streets, and long days exploring museums and historic sites, we were looking for a hotel that would keep us close to everything while still giving us space to unwind, especially traveling as a family with young kids. That’s what led us to the Sina Villa Medici, Autograph Collection, Florence.
Located just outside the busiest part of the historic center, it offered the right balance for this stop on our trip, walkable when we wanted it, but removed enough to feel manageable at the end of the day.
Hotel Overview
For this stay, we booked a paid rate rather than using points, taking advantage of a “Stay 4 Nights, Get 1 Night Complimentary” Marriott Luminous promotion.
The rate included breakfast, early check-in and late checkout when available, and a few additional perks. Combined with Titanium status, it ended up being a strong value, especially in a city where hotels can get expensive. It’s a good example of when paying cash can make more sense than using points, depending on the offer.
Location
The location ended up being one of the biggest advantages of the stay. You’re about a 10–15 minute walk from the Duomo and main attractions, which keeps everything accessible without being in the middle of the crowds all day. After spending time in Florence, that difference becomes more noticeable than you expect.
The hotel itself feels different from most properties in the city. Instead of the tighter, more historic layouts you’ll find throughout Florence, this one feels more open and relaxed. The central garden creates a quieter environment, and from the moment you arrive, it feels like a bit of a reset from the city.
What Sets This Hotel Apart
The biggest differentiator here is the outdoor space.
Having a pool and private garden in Florence is rare, and it completely changes the experience. After a full day walking through the city, being able to come back and relax, especially with kids, adds a level of balance that most hotels in Florence just don’t offer. It turns the hotel into part of the trip, not just a place to sleep.
Rooms: Junior Suite Experience
We stayed in a Junior Suite, and it made a noticeable difference. At around 40 square meters, the room was large enough for us and had a separate living area, where the rollaway beds were brought in for the kids to use. The larger space of the suite gave us more than enough room to spread out after long days exploring. That’s not always easy to find in Florence, where many hotel rooms tend to be more compact.
The room leaned toward a more classic Italian style, with marble finishes in the bathroom and both a bathtub and separate shower. Our room overlooked the adjacent park, which added to the quieter feel of the stay.
It’s not a modern, design-forward room, but it’s comfortable, functional, and well-suited for a family.
Dining Experience
Dining was another strong part of the stay. We had complimentary breakfast each morning through Bonvoy Titanium status and rate we had booked, which added real value over multiple days. It was a simple, relaxed way to start the day before heading out.
We also had dinner at Harry’s Bar The Garden, the hotel’s on-site restaurant. The setting stood out more than anything, outdoor seating in the garden, a quieter atmosphere, and a nice change of pace from the busy restaurants in the city center.
Overall Impression
The Sina Villa Medici Autograph Collection stands out because it offers something you don’t typically get in Florence: space. It’s not about ultra-luxury or modern design, it’s about having room to unwind after spending the day in a busy, high-traffic city.
Staying in a Junior Suite, combined with access to the pool and garden, made this feel more balanced than a typical city stay. We could explore Florence during the day and come back to a quieter, more relaxed environment at night. There are tradeoffs. It’s not right in the center, and it doesn’t have the same boutique feel as some smaller properties. But for families, that tradeoff works in your favor. Having actual keys to use to unlock the door gave the hotel an old-school Italy feel and you could leave your keys at the front lobby when going out for the day.
If you’re visiting Florence as a family, the Sina Villa Medici Autograph Collection is one of the most practical and well-balanced options in the city. It’s not the flashiest hotel, but it’s one that makes your overall trip easier and it’s a part of the Marriott Collection, so you can redeem valuable perks, as well as earn points and credit towards your Marriott Bonvoy status.
