Disney World Character Dining: Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort near Magic Kingdom

There are a few different options available for character dining at Disney World that are spread out across the parks and Disney World hotels. The best character dining option for your trip will likely come down to which parks you'll be visiting, which characters you want to see and the type of food you'll want to enjoy during the experience. 

We just returned from a trip to Disney World and enjoyed a lovely dinner at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort, just a short monorail ride away from Magic Kingdom.    

For Chef Mickey's character dining, only breakfast and dinner character dining options are available.  For our experience, we enjoyed a character dinner at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort on the day we planned on visiting Magic Kingdom.  After a long and exhausting day of exploring Magic Kingdom, it was nice to have a sit-down table service buffet-style dinner to end the day.  

If you haven't experienced a character dinner here, the restaurant is located inside Disney's Contemporary Resort, which is near Magic Kingdom.  If you're visiting Magic Kingdom, the hotel is just a stop away on the monorail from Magic Kingdom of if coming from the parking lot for Magic Kingdom.

Once you're seated, you can order drinks (specialty or alcoholic drinks not included in standard price) and dinner will be brought out to you during the course of your experience.  During the course of your dinner, characters will make their way over to your table to sign autographs and take pictures.

Also during our recent visit, this meal was served family style and brought out to our table.  I personally like this option since you could miss characters coming to your table if you're at the buffet grabbing food.  If you miss a character, you can let a cast member know and they'll be sure to make their way back to your table when they get a chance.  The family style option where the food is brought out to you is available now through October 31, 2022, with the standard buffet experience returning on November 1, 2022.

At Check Mickey's character dining, prepare for an all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast or dinner feast at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  Unique aspects of this character dining experience are the monorail that whizzes by, expansive views of Bay Lake and a stunning 90-foot-high mural by Disney Legend Mary Blair that overlooks the festive eatery.

How much does character dining cost at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort?

• Breakfast and dinner price at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort are different prices, with breakfast coming out cheaper than dinner here.  For our character dinner, the price was $55 per adult and $36 per child (Ages 3-9).

• For our family dinner at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort, the total for 2 adults and 2 kids, when you add taxes, gratuity and drinks we ordered, came out to $250.87.  

What characters will you see at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort?

• At Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort, you will see Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse in their best chef attire.

• Each table will also receive a special, autographed card keepsake from Mickey and his friends. 

What type of food is offered at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort?

Depending on your breakfast visit or dinner visit, here is what you can expect: 

• For breakfast, enjoy sweet and savory breads, Scrambled Eggs, Smoked Bacon, Slow-roasted Beef Brisket, Mickey Waffles and a collection of Chef Mickey's Signature entrees, including Banana Bread French Toast, Loaded Potato-Cheese Casserole and the Celebration Mickey Pancake.
• Dinner offerings begin with a first course including Chef Mickey’s Caesar Salad and Citrus-Poached Shrimp Salad, followed by a second course with signature items such as the Potato Gnocchi, Roasted Garlic Potato Gratin and Plant-Based Faro Wheat Fried Rice, as well as protein selections featuring Prime Rib, Traditional Roast Breast of Turkey and Salmon. And please save room to end your feast with the Pastry Chef’s sensational, family-style desserts!

Do you need a reservation for character dining at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort?

• I recommend making advanced reservations as soon as they are available.  And since this is not located inside one of the parks, you won't need any park reservations or tickets to be able to enjoy this character dining experience

Is character dining at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort worth the cost?

• The main reason why I like to book character dining while visiting Disney Parks is for the experience for the kids and being able to meet your favorite Disney characters during the dining experience to save valuable time while in the park for other attractions.  

• For example, instead of waiting in line to see certain classic characters while visiting Magic Kingdom , you could schedule a dinner visit to Chef Mickey's and see those characters there. 

Overall, I would highly recommend booking at least one character dining experience during your Disney World visit, especially if you have younger kids.  The joy in meeting their favorite characters and being able to interact more with them here, is worth the cost in my opinion.  Plus you'll get to enjoy a nice meal along the way, making for a very memorable experience for everyone.
