Review: Hyatt Times Square New York

We recently had the pleasure of visiting New York for the first time and got to take in all of the great things New York City has to offer from hotel accommodations, tourist attractions, restaurants and much more.

I plan on reviewing all aspects of our trip, including the hotels we stayed at and plan on offering tips on visiting the main attractions in New York City.

First up is a look at the hotel we stayed at for the beginning part of our trip, the Hyatt Times Square New York.

Hotel Overview:
The Hyatt Times Square is centrally located in Manhattan and an ideal location to stay at when exploring the surrounding area.  It is not in the hustle and bustle of Times Square, but a block removed from it on a side street, making it a quick two minute walk into the heart of Times Square.

Opening in late 2013, the Hyatt Times Square is one of the newer Hyatt Properties in New York occupying a high-rise building of 54 floors offering great views of the area from its 487 guest rooms, including 49 suites.

The hotel lobby is small, when compared to typical hotel lobbies you'd come across, but it is functional with a fresh modern decor to it.

There is a gym on the third floor and also a spa, the Timeless-Marilyn Monroe Spa.

The best way to get around New York City is by taxi, subway, uber/lyft or bus, but if for some reason you had a car, parking will run you $65 per night, with no in/out privileges.

For our recent stay here, we were able to use a Diamond Suite Upgrade on a standard room paid rate, which upgraded us to a Corner Suite.  Unfortunately, we weren't able to use any award nights; available for 25,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points or able to book a Points+Cash rate, as there wasn't any availability.

Other benefits of Diamond status at the Hyatt Times Square include:
  • A 30% Hyatt Gold Passport points bonus (6.5 points per dollar)
  • Complimentary full breakfast at T45 or room service for yourself and up to three guests
  • Welcome Amenity - Choice of 1,000 bonus points or 2 drink vouchers for Bar54 or a 20-minute neck and back  massage at the Spa
  • Upgrade to the Best Available room (excluding suites)
  • 4PM late check-out
You can learn more about the Hyatt Gold Passport loyalty program here.

Our room on the 45th floor felt new and featured a clean modern design that offered us a lot of space with great views of Times Square.

On-site dining options include a retro eatery, T45, which offers classic American comfort foods and a rooftop lounge and Bar 54, where guests can take in views of the Manhattan skyline from 54 floors up while enjoying their drinks.

If you're planning a trip to New York City, the Hyatt Times Square is a great option to consider as it's close to all of the main attractions you'll want to check out while visiting New York City.  It is minutes away from the heart of Times Square and a short walk to the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and 5th Avenue shops.
