Planning a Trip to the Napa Valley Wine Country?

Review: Andaz Napa

The Andaz in Napa is a Hyatt hotel and their take on the luxury boutique style of hotel accommodation and is a five-story hotel located in the heart of downtown Napa.  There are lots of restaurants and wine tasting rooms within walking distance and the hotel serves as a great starting off point for your weekend wine tasting adventures in Napa Valley.  The onsite drink and dining options are very nice as well and there is an outdoor terrace on the second floor called Mercantile Social that offers small bites and drinks.

Andaz Napa
My Experience:
During a typical hotel stay you walk into the lobby and front counter to check-in, but at Andaz it's a totally different concept and at first, it kind of threw me off.  The traditional hotel lobby has been replaced by a open communal space with a bar and lounge.  An Andaz employee greets you, pulls up your reservation on an iPad and offers you a seat and a complimentary drink.

Nightly rates can run high here and during peak times of the year room rates start at $500 and up.  I was able to score a last minute deal for $219, plus taxes and fees, using the Visa Signature Hotels Collection.  Booking through the Visa Signature Hotel Collection provided some great benefits, as I was able to get the best bang for my buck.  I was able to get some great perks I wouldn't have received otherwise, including a room upgrade and free breakfast.  For my most recent stay, I booked a large king room and was upgraded to an Andaz large loft, one of the Visa Signature perks afforded to you.  Note that these perks are included when you are a Diamond level member in the Hyatt Gold Passport program.  I plan on reviewing the Hyatt Gold Passport program in a future post.

I would recommend the Andaz Napa as more of a couples retreat since most of the area activities are wine and dining related, but that's not to say families with kids wouldn't have a good time.

Quick Facts:
  • Renovated and modern looking rooms
  • Complimentary self-parking directly behind the hotel, valet also available
  • Not the traditional type of lobby, open lobby/bar/lounge, complimentary wine when checking in
  • Open air second story terrace dining with a firepit and bar
  • Free non-alcoholic drinks and snacks available in the room mini-bar
  • Large soaking tubs and dual sided fireplaces (in the large loft rooms)
  • Pool and fitness center available next door at Exertec Health and Fitness Center
  • On-Site Andaz dining is good:
    • Andaz Farmer's Table is good for breakfast
    • Mercantile Social on the second floor terrace is good for drinks and small bites

If you're planning a trip to the Napa Valley any time soon, it's worth checking out the Andaz in downtown Napa.

And if you're looking to celebrate the Fourth of July in Napa, there is still some availability as of today (6/30) for Friday night starting at $349, which is below typical starting room rates around $500 and above. It's not the cheapest place to stay in the Napa area, but I feel it's well worth it if you crave a more luxurious hotel stay.

Staying Friday night at Andaz Napa would be a great starting off point for your wine tasting adventures over the holiday weekend.  Act fast if you're interested!
