Review: Kimpton Sawyer Sacramento

The Kimpton Sawyer is Sacramento's newest hotel located in the heart of downtown and the up and coming Downtown Commons (DOCO) area next to the Golden 1 Center.  The boutique hotel offers nice downtown views, a rooftop pool deck and is in a great location for exploring the surrounding area and for attending events at the Golden 1 Center.

Hotel Overview:
The hotel's name draws inspiration from Sacramento's history and pays homage to Gold Rush era California Supreme Court Judge Lorenzo Sawyer, who is honored with a larger than life painted portrait in the living room lobby/lounge area.

The hotel is part of the 16-story Sawyer tower, with the first 11 floors of the building being occupied by the hotel and the next 5 floors being residences available for purchase.

The first three floors of the hotel feature a stunning lobby, lounge area/work space, meeting rooms/ballrooms and the Revival Bar & Lounge.  There is a nightly wine hour and coffee, tea and newspaper service is offered every morning in the lobby living room.

The hotel just opened in October 2017, but everything from the decor to service is impeccable.

If there is one thing that stands out at the Kimpton Sawyer, it is the Revival Bar & Lounge on the third floor.  Revival offers a rooftop bar/lounge area, an outdoor infinity pool, cabanas, and firepits that overlook the main plaza area of the Golden 1 Center.  During the day, you can enjoy the pool and farm-to-fork food offered and at night (and event dates), the lounge transforms into what I imagine will be a very popular spot offering live music and DJ's on some nights.

Other hotel amenities include onsite restaurants opening soon - Echo & Rig Steakhouse and Punch Bowl Social.

Punch Bowl Social will offer what they call “eater-tainment," with offerings such as bowling and karaoke, in addition to food/drinks.

There is a fitness center on the third floor and complimentary continental breakfast that was offered during our stay as well.

Kimpton also offers bikes for use to explore the surrounding area and each room offers a yoga mat and weekend yoga class by the pool.

Kimpton Karma Rewards members get a $10 Raid the Bar credit, free WiFi, reward nights, $30 in-room spa credit and access to exclusive offers.  If you're not a member yet, I'd suggest joining before your next stay.  Note that Kimpton was recently bought by IHG, which you can read more about here

Lastly, valet parking is available for overnight guests as well as those just attending events at the hotel or dining at one of the restaurants.  The overnight rate for valet parking is $32.

Accommodations:
The hotel offers 250 guestrooms, including 35 suites, with modern contemporary decor featured throughout.  For our most recent stay here, we were in in a Queen/Queen Deluxe room with views of downtown Sacramento.

The bathroom was modern, contemporary and featured detailed finishes with bath amenities by Atelier Bloem.

Summary:
If you're planning a trip to Sacramento or attending an event at the Golden 1 Center, the Kimpton Sawyer is a top choice and my recommendation for your stay in Sacramento.  The hotel is right next door to the Golden 1 Center and central to all of dining and shopping available (and coming soon) to the Downtown Commons (DOCO) area.

Everything from the valet service, check-in, living room lounge wine hour, morning breakfast and the surrounding area dining/shopping available here made our stay enjoyable and provided us easy access to our event at the Golden 1 Center.

If you weren't familiar with the Kimpton hotel brand before, you should be!  Kimpton hotels are the original boutique hotel and offer a sense of place meets modern boutique hotel.  Kimpton hotels are typically located in urban areas and offer the best of the surrounding location's restaurants/food, entertainment and modern accommodations.  The Sawyer is central to everything in downtown Sacramento and perfect for your next trip to the the capital city of California.
